Kanchenjunga trek is a challenging and rewarding adventure that takes you to the base camps of the third highest mountain in the world, Mount Kanchenjunga. The trek offers stunning views of the Himalayan peaks, diverse landscapes, rich culture, and wildlife. You can choose from different itineraries and durations depending on your preference and budget. The best time to do this trek is between late April to May, and September to November. During these months, the weather is relatively stable and the views of the mountain are clear. The trek is also less crowded, as most trekkers visit during the peak months of June and July when the monsoon season makes the trek difficult and unpredictable. In April and May, the rhododendrons are in full bloom and the trek is surrounded by beautiful flowers.
The temperatures are also mild, making the trek more pleasant. September to November is also a great time to go, as the monsoon season has ended and the skies are clear again. The temperatures are slightly cooler, and the fall colors of the trees add to the beauty of the trek. The difficulty level of this trek is challenging due to its high altitude and rugged terrain. The trek starts at an elevation of 1,500 meters and goes up to an altitude of 5,243 meters at the base camp of Kanchenjunga. On average, you will gain an altitude of 500 meters to 700 meters per day. You will also be walking through tough and steep terrain, with extended lengths of descends and ascends, river crossings, and winding pathways. You will also spend many hours a day trekking in remote and isolated places.

Day 1

Early in the morning we take our flight to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu with the scenic view of the Eastern region. After 45 minutes of flight we reach the Bhardrapur airport then we will take a car/jeep from Bhadrapur for Illam/Taplejunga which will take Approx 8 hours of drive. We will stop in the beautiful tea garden of Illam also known as the garden of Nepal for our lunch. After our Lunch, we will decent upward from Illam for our overnight stay in Taplejung.

Today we will head towards the Mitlung/Sinuwa by crossing the small river over the suspension bridge. Then our trail descends down to Tamor Riverwalk through villages and terraced fields. Some irregular villages give us an opportunity to meet local people. Upon arriving at Tamor River, we follow some narrow trails close to the river. Then a gradual uphill trail through the terraced fields and few houses take to the village of Hellok.

Today we will trek to Mamasik from Hellok on our third day and we will decent upward slope with beautiful and friendly local people. Small tea breaks give us plenty of opportunities to encounter local people and have a look over beautiful houses and local domestic animals. We will walk along the Simbuwa Khola on our way to Mamasik and we spend our overnight in Mamasik.

Today we march gradually ascending and following the Sibuwa river and cross the river again to our left side. A short steep uphill walk takes us to a bit high and keeps the distance with Sibuwa River. We walk through the rhododendron and bamboo bushes and thick forest to reach Tortong and we can enjoy with the wild animals like Red Panda, Wild Boar, Bear, Musk Deer, wild birds, and other different wild animals in our way and we will stay in Tortong for the overnight.

Today we will trek through the trail of the dense forest of beautiful bamboo and rhododendron which is accompanied by the river. After that we will walk along the Simbuwa Khola gradually uphill then after some time we will reach Cheram for the overnight stay.

We begin our short trek after breakfast. From Cheram, we ascend for some time before reaching the snout of the Yalung Glacier. It is a beautiful walk on a valley trail. We also cherish the views of several Himalayan peaks. We pass through a small settlement of Lapsang before reaching Ramche. Overnight in Ramche.

From Ramche, we walk further up the valley. We then follow a stream before climbing on the moraine top until confronted by Kanchenjunga’s southern face. We walk further ahead for a glimpse of the Jannu Himal. We continue our trek further towards the Oktang Monastery. From here, we climb further up and reach the Yalung Base Camp. The views from the base camp are extraordinary. Kumbakarna (Jannu), Nyukla Lachung, and other Himalayan peaks are close by. We descend and spend the night at Cheram.

We begin our trek after breakfast. We cross four passes today beginning with Sinelapche Bhanjyang. After crossing the pass we continue to Mirgin La pass. We continue trekking and reach the Sinon La pass which is not very far. From here, we ascend to Sele La pass. There are prayer flags strung across one of the steeper sections of the trail which is very near to the Sele La pass. We cross the pass. Overnight in Sele La.

We begin our trek after breakfast. We walk towards the north with Tangbgharma Danda nearby. We reach a chorten marked by prayer flags which marks the start of a steep trail. We descend through rhododendron, birch and pine forests before reaching Ghunsa. It is a beautiful village of houses with Day.
Day 10

Ghunsa is a beautiful settlement of Sherpa people with their beautiful culture and lifestyle, so we will take a day off for the rest in Ghunsa and explore the beautiful Ghunsa. We will visit the Monastery, Juniper, and incense factory with antique shops of handmade carpets. Ghunsa is the gateway of North and the South Base camp of Kanchenjunga.

From Ghunsa, we descend towards Phale. We pass through several Manes and a monastery nearby. We walk through Juniper forests and reach Phale. From here, it is a steady descent to Gyabla. We cross a bridge over Chhundatangka Khola to reach Gyabla. As we continue our trek, we see a waterfall nearby. We also cross a suspension bridge over Sumbung Khola before reaching Amjilosa. Overnight in Amjilosa.

After walking for a while we see a beautiful waterfall nearby. We continue our trek and pass a small settlement of Solima before crossing a suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola. We cross another suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola and reach Sukathum. Our trail passes through several villages and is beside Thunsa Khola at first followed by Tamor Nadi before reaching Chirwa. Overnight in Chirwa

Today we will drive through the Taplejung Bazaar with the private jeep/car then we will drive and see Nepali culture and lifestyle and a beautiful cardamom garden with a beautiful rice paddy field. After approx 6 hours of drive, we will reach Illam Bazaar and stay overnight in Illam. After reaching Illam we will do the sightseeing of Illam Bazaar and Illam Bazar is one of the most popular business hubs between India and Nepal. Illam is very famous for its local products like Tea, Cardamom, Ginger, Ghee, chilly, and many other household products.

We will drive from Illam to Bhadrapur by private jeep through the tea garden with small towns Kanyam, we can see many scenes of tea garden, Nepali lifestyle and we can buy varieties of tea and local products from Fickal Bazzar/ Kanyam. Then we will drive to Bhadrapur airport for our flights and we will fly back to Kathmandu on the same day.

- Booking Contract
- You will receive an official confirmation via email or a letter handed over to you by our representative at any of our offices once you confirm the bookings. Please check the letter carefully and report any information that might be incorrect or incomplete. Make sure to use your Passport names for the booking to avoid confusion. Refunds or discounts will not be entertained unless officially agreed upon beforehand.
- Securing the booking
- A 100% payment of the total cost of the trip per person should be made to secure the booking. Following conditions must be considered for the deposit:
- Clients should read and accept the risks involved in the adventure activity chosen.
- Pre-existing medical conditions should be informed.
- Clients should have read and accepted all the Booking Conditions and General information pages.
- The person making the booking should be of minimum 16 years of age and should have full authority to enter into a contract on the basis of these conditions
- Booking on behalf of others
- If you are making the booking on behalf of other participants, we will need a warrant that you have obtained their consent. As their representative, you will be our contact person and will hence be responsible for full payments of the travel package and/or additional activities purchased. You will also be responsible for keeping your party informed about the trip.
- Please make sure the information you provide is complete and accurate. The Tour Operator will not be responsible for issues caused by misinformation.
- Payments
- Any due amount with Mount Adventure Holidays must be cleared within 48 hours from the time of booking made. We reserve the right to treat your booking as canceled if the payment is not cleared within a specified period.
- Booking changes
- Booking changes are welcomed free of charge up to 60 days ahead of departure. The changes are however subject to the availability of the packages. Under reasonable conditions, in case you are unable to travel, the booking can be transferable to another person. But make sure to do it 60 days ahead of your departure. All costs or charges incurred must be cleared out before making the transfer. For flight inclusive bookings, the airline charges should be paid in accordance with the airline involved.
- Booking cancellations
- Cancellation before 45+ days of departure will be done free of charge.
- Cancellations made between 30-44 days ahead of departure will be subject to a loss of 30% of the total trip price.
- Cancellations made between 15-29 days ahead of departure will be subject to a loss of 60% of the total trip price.
- No refunds will be entertained for cancellations made 14 days ahead of departure
- Medical information
- Kindly disclose all relevant medical conditions to the Tour Operator that need to be considered while on the trip. For adventure activities, medical forms are to ensure your condition does not impact your ability to travel to remote areas or need constant medical assistance. It is for your own safety and the Tour Operator ensures compliance with the Privacy Policy to keep your information safe.
- Pregnant women are advised to consult their doctors before taking up a trip. Please take the expert’s advice before applying. If there are any precautions to be taken during the trip, please inform the Tour Operator at the time of booking.
- Make sure to take or carry any necessary medications before or during the trip, as advised by your doctor.
- Any potential allergies to food or plants and dietary restrictions among others should be mentioned. In case of misinformation or lack of information, the Tour Operator will not liable.
- Other requirements
- If you have any special requirements please share them with the Tour Operator at the time of booking so responsible efforts can be carried out in order to accommodate your special requirements and requests as long as the locations and resources allow.
- Age requirements
- Anyone under the age of 16 will be considered a minor and should always be accompanied by an adult. One adult may accompany up to two minors. The minimum age for traveling for minors is 12 years.
- Booking of minors is subject to review on the part of the Tour Operator. If consent on part of a parent or a guardian is required, then it should be provided as per the rules and regulations. The adult associated with the minor is fully responsible for the behavior, wellbeing, and supervision of the activities of the minor. The tour operator does not provide care services for minors.
- Insurance requirements
- Clients must process travel insurance with medical, evacuation, and repatriation coverage of about 200,000 US dollars. The insurance must cover injury and emergency medical needs and rescue operations for a trek that goes above 4000m. The Tour Operator will verify if you have sufficient insurance in place. Clients are also strongly recommended to extend the coverage to include curtailment, cancellation, delay, inconvenience, injury, and delay while traveling.
- Insurance coverage is not included in the cost of any adventure activity and must be obtained separately.
- Change of price & taxes
- The published price of the Tour and services offered by the Tour Operator is subject to change anytime within 30 days before departure. The Tour operator reserves the right to impose extra service charges from the one mentioned in the booking details. If the increase in price is greater than 10% of the original price you can:
- Choose to cancel the applicable booking without any penalty.
- Accept the change of price.
- Possible reduced pricing can be available on certain products or bookings. Bookings, where payment of the deposit has already been obtained, are not entitled to reduce pricing.
- Airfare
- Tour prices do not include the international and other airfares unless explicitly mentioned in the descriptions of the concerned tour. The Tour Operators act only as a sales agent in the air carrier.
- Trip participation and client responsibility
- You agree to accept the decisions made by the Tour Operator and you agree that all decisions made are on the part of your health, level of fitness, and conduct. Tour operators will bear no costs incurred as a result of the exclusion and no refund shall be provided for unused services. Please make sure to carry all appropriate documents along with you when taking part in the tour. It is mandatory that you carry a valid passport, all travel documents required by the relevant governmental authorities, visas, permits, certificates, and insurance policies. You have the full responsibility of obtaining these documents and the cost incurred as a result of the loss of these documents.
